Text Box: Fifth Grade News Fifth graders are in the middle of their division unit in math. They are dividing 4 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers and deciding how to handle remainders. The next unit will be Fractions. Some students still need to master the multiplication facts which are very important in our math. Not knowing basic facts when doing math is similar to not knowing the sounds of letters when trying to read. The second reading benchmark test has just been taken, after the completion of Theme 2 and the Poetry unit please encourage your child to read each night at home in a quiet place. The Simple Machines unit in science is almost over. Students have been finding out with hands on activities how pulleys, inclined planes, wheel and axles and levers work. Ask your child how a screwdriver works! Fifth grades need to constantly remember the need to be respectful, responsible and ready to learn at all times in school.
