Kindergarten (cont.) During Phonemic Awareness, we will be blending and segmenting (taking apart) words with the short /a/. For example, the 3 sounds /b/-/a/-/t/ blend into “bat” and “hat” can segment into 3 sounds /h/-/a/-/t/.
In math lessons will focus on counting 1-12 and using those numbers to make and match sets. Students will be reading the numerals (1, 2, 3…9, 10) and number words (one…ten). Kindergarten students will graph favorite activities this month. Clifford, the Big Red Dog, will help us sort objects by size and length.
Our science studies will center on seasonal change and how people, plants and animals prepare for winter. In social studies students will use the reading topic to extend and explore their understanding friendship and how friends solve problems. In January, students will observe Martin Luther King Day and again, tie the meaning of Dr. King’s work to friendship and tolerance. |
