Hooray! Our students have been counting the number of days in school and we are about to reach the 100th day of kindergarten. What a big number! They Text Box: will be going on a scavenger hunt to find one hundred items in the kindergarten pod.

Kindergarten students are bringing home lots of little books to share. The sentences and stories in the books gradually become longer Text Box: Pre-Kindergarten News
It is hard to believe that half of this fabulous year is over. The children have been working extremely hard and their hard work is paying off. All 17 of the morning students and 15 out of 19 afternoon students can zip their coats all by themselves. Twenty-eight out of thirty-six students can write their names with a model. I am proud of how well those students wrote their names without any help. Their papers look spectacular!
The children are building a solid foundation for reading. They have learned 11 letters of the alphabet (a,f,o,p,s,t,u,w,x,y,z), the sounds that those letters make and how to write the upper and lower case of each. They are learning to be conscientious listeners and thinkers, so they can answer questions about the stories they hear. So far this year, we have read 166 stories, so they have had plenty of practice and are getting pretty good at it.
In math, the children are working just as hard. Twenty-five of the thirty-six students can recognize the numbers 0-5 and many know up to 10. Thirty-one out of thirty-six students can count to ten or higher. However, two students are counting up a storm. Sauntie Simmons can count to 89 and Levi Neild can count to 101! What an accomplishment!
