Our Service Learning trip to Pleasant Day Adult Daycare Center was a huge success. The smiles that were on their clients faces were priceless. The children sang the songs that were performed during the “A Book is a Magic Carpet Ride” concert. Following their performance, students presented each client with a student made gift that said, “I love you ‘beary’ much!” The bear shape was glued to a craft stick that the students made during Art class with Mrs. Hosler. The children did a wonderful job.
Reading The March and April themes are Wheels Go Around, Down on the Farm, and Spring Is Here. We will read stories and fables that feature transportation, vehicles and other kinds of wheels; farm animals, plants, and people who work on farms; and books about spring and seasonal changes.

Spring is here and the children are blooming. They have been working diligently and have grown so much since the beginning of the year.
The children are developing a solid foundation for reading. They have learned 14 letters of the alphabet (s,p,o,t,x,u,y,w,f,a,z,b,m, and r), the sounds that those letters make and how to write the upper and lower case of each. To help reinforce these letters and sounds, you can have your child name an object she/he sees, identify the sound the object begins with, and name the letter that makes that sound.
The children are learning how to be strategic listeners and thinkers, so they can answer questions about the stories they hear. You can help your child boost his/her comprehension, by reading to your child daily and asking questions about the story. Have the child tell you if the story is fiction (make-believe) or non-fiction (true). If the story is fiction have him/her make predictions about what will happen, identify the characters, setting (where & when the story takes place), the problem, and solution. She/He can sequence the events of the story identifying what happened at the beginning, middle, and end. If you read non-fiction text, ask your child what it was about and what the author wanted him/her to learn. Show your child how to find additional information through other books or the internet.

What a great turn out we had on Parent Conference Day!  It was so nice to see all the parents and give them the good news about their child’s academic progress.  Continue to work with your child at home to reinforce the skills learned at school.

Our students did a wonderful job on their 100th Day Projects.  Some of the projects were completed by using foam stickers, beans, marbles, stamps, pennies, candy, nuts and bolts, cereal, and stickers.
