If your child still has questions about the non-fiction topic, that is a great time to show your child how to find additional information through other books or the internet. The Dorchester County Public Library is a great resource for you and your child to take advantage of. Mrs. Susan Steele, the children’s librarian, will graciously assist your family in learning all that the library has to offer. In math, the children are working just as hard. Almost all of the children know their numbers to ten and many of them can identify numbers to 20. You can help your child retain and enhance this skill by having them identify numbers that you point out on signs, sale circulars, or around the home. Your child can also practice counting and make sets with objects around the house. This will help reinforce one to one correspondence. Practicing your child’s 5-digit number is another way to reinforce the numbers. Remember our goal is for all of the children to know his/her personal school identification number by April. We will be spending more time developing writing skills and refining our fine motor skills, so the children are ready to go when they enter kindergarten. Please encourage your child to be as accurate as she/he can be when doing homework. Have him/her do homework only in pencil, so that mistakes can be easily erased. Being diligent now will make a huge difference when they go to kindergarten. The children can focus on content and not have to worry about the fine motor skills. As always, I appreciate all the support you give your child by ensuring she/he completes nightly homework assignments. The children who have their homework complete are better prepared for the day and are developing positive work habits that will follow him/her through high school. I know with spring, come warmer days, which makes it harder for parents to get children to do homework. Please be diligent! Make sure your child completes and returns his/her homework the next day. In order to complete homework, your child needs pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue sticks at home. Have your child write his/her name on the homework each night. Have your child put the homework back in the green homework folder and you check behind him/her. This helps teach responsibility. Thanks again for your dedication and support. How lucky these children are to have such supportive parents!!!!!!! Happy Spring!!!!! |
