In third grade, our Reading theme is still Animal Habitats. The stories that we have read are about how animals live and grow in their environments . A few of the stories we read were Nights of the Pufflings and Seal Surfer . Our next story is Two Days In May.
Your child will have vocabulary words that come home each week, at the beginning of the story. Please look over these words and study them with your child. Your child may switch to another teacher for Guided Reading. Most Guided Reading groups have homework. Please check with your child to ensure that they have completed their homework.
In math, we will be finishing our unit on Measurement with Statistics. We will then start our unit on Fractions and Probability. In this unit, they will learn about parts of a whole and games of chance. Your child takes a facts test at least once a week. This is a timed test in which students compute math facts. Please work with your child at home in studying these facts they are working on. They should have a facts study sheet to study as well as flashcards.
In social studies, we are learning about our communities. Remember to sign your child’s agenda each night and help them with homework. Students will also need to read for 20 minutes each night. They will have spelling homework Monday thru Thursday night with their spelling test on Friday. They will have Math homework Monday thru Thursday. On Friday, all of their work will come home in their Friday Folder. Please look over the work with your child and sign the sheet. This work needs to be left at home. If you are not sure whether or not they have homework you can check the homework hotline each night after 4:00 p.m. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher please call the school to set up a conference. Just a reminder– Please remember that it is still winter and your child needs to wear a coat to school.
