May is an exciting time in first grade. In Social Studies, we are studying Mexico and Egypt. We will continue to watch our plants grow in science. In math, we will be leaning about fractions, how to weigh things, and reviewing how to count change up to a dollar. In reading, we will be learning how to make words plural by adding es to words that end with ch, tch, sh, s, ss, or x and ies to words that end with y. We are also looking forward to earning a Fiesta, Relay Race Day, Pirate Day, and making Egyptian Mobiles as part of our end of the year incentives. Keep on reading!

Text Box: Science and Social Studies-- This month we will study seasonal change (with a special focus on spring) and the impact that seasons have on animals. We will learn to distinguish between living and non-living things and use that special vocabulary. We will be talking about mothers this first week and make something special for them. (Shh! It’s a secret.) At the end of the month some lessons will focus on our friends and family in military service and why their job is so important and special.
